The ancient Chinese knew it — you can convert a time of trouble into an opportunity to push for success. It is interesting how the word crisis is represented in the Chinese language. It is composed of two characters: One representing danger, and the other opportunity.
Crisis brings forth continuation of life and possibilities. Nature has taught us that with the death of a gazelle, a next generation of lions will survive. Crisis in nature keeps the balance of life as it has done for millions of years.
The law of nature is still upheld in the concrete jungle. We are continuously faced with personal and professional crises. How can we hold our heads above water and get through a crisis alive? In this article, I will share tips on handling crisis and shifting our mindset to look at crisis from a different point of view.
What comes to mind when the word crisis is mentioned? Is it a word that frightens you or do you see it as merely a crossroad of a new journey? Should your mind gravitate towards negativity, stop. Start with a mind overhaul.
Looking back at the Chinese character for crisis, danger is a warning label for us to be aware of what is in store. It is wise to be patient when handling a crisis and not jump with both eyes closed. A crisis is life’s lesson for us to create resilience in our soul to inspire our very own success. Having the resilience to walk through a crisis will give you the courage and mental perseverance that will assure you of success. A clear, articulate vision will keep you grounded when you stray off course. The inner passion that drives our soul will move us to action. Believe that the crisis will pass and a new day awaits.
Attract inspiration by freeing your body, mind and spirit. Inspiration will give that extra push to see a clear path ahead. Inspirations open us up to possibilities by shattering any box that we hold ourselves in. At the end of it all, success awaits you. Success comes in different packages for different individuals. For some, the journey itself is success. A transformation will occur that will reinvent the individual that survived a crisis. Self-confidence will increase and affirm the beliefs that there is a solution for every crisis.
Here is a six-step course of action that will provide a path to finding a solution to solving a crisis.
1. Acceptance of the crisis as an opportunity
Accepting what the universe presents to you helps to focus on the issue at hand. Instead of wallowing in victim stories, accept the circumstances and face reality. Acceptance is a process in itself. It heals the hurt and put things in perspective.
Ask yourself: “What value will I achieve by denying reality?”
2. Approach the crisis with a positive mind
Approaching the crisis without a preconceived notion will lessen your anxiety. Live it moment to moment and do not create scenarios that will hamper your progress.
Ask yourself: “What does a positive approach look like to me?”
3. Open the door of possibilities
Let your body, mind and soul be open to the possibility of finding a solution. Do not close any line of communication. Listen to yourself and seek to understand its meaning. Sieve through outside advice and take on board only constructive solutions.
Ask yourself: “If I am given the key of possibilities, which door will I open?”
4. Commit to an action plan
Commitment is the essence of any plan. A plan is just writing on a piece of paper without the commitment to make it happen. Do not procrastinate on the action plan. The later you take action, the bigger the crisis will be.
Ask yourself: “What will happen should I procrastinate executing my action plan?”
5. Look out for danger
As any crisis is filled with opportunity, therein lies danger too. Be aware of barriers that could hinder your success. Do not rush through a minefield and hope to escape unhurt. Be patient and open your eyes to pitfalls.
Ask yourself: “What barriers could hinder my success?”
6. Acknowledge your success
Remember that every step in the journey is a step closer to success. Celebrate your win knowing that you have made a difference to yourself. Reward yourself for having the courage to face a crisis.
Ask yourself: “What can I do to acknowledge myself?”
